Some interesting news concerning the foreigners in Beijing and ... countdown can start: one more month in Beijing.

Hello peeps

It's been awhile, I've been quite busy the last month. I didn't really had time to update this blog, hope you're all excited to read my 'adventures'. I don't remember exactly what I've written last time, but let's start with some interesting news for the ones here in Beijing or for the ones who are planning to visit Beijing the next 3 months. A couple days ago we received an E-mail from our General Manager at our school. The E-mail concerned about the foreigners in Beijing. We are obligated to have our passports and our registration form on us all the time. The reason here fore is, Beijing has started a 'clean up' with the foreigners, the last years the number of foreigners increased a lot, a certain number has no legal papers and just try to get around here in Beijing. There are also a few incidentes that happened, foreigners killing each other, foreigners bothering Chinese people, getting into fights with Chinese people for no reason. The most recent one was actually last week. A foreigner raped a Chinese girl on the street, around 8-9pm. I don't know exactly what happened, but it was in a quite crowded place, a lot of people didn't do anything. They were just staring at what was happening at that time. They say the foreigner was drunk, but eyewitnesses say something else. He didn't seem drunk, he didn't had a alcohol breathe, etc. While the guy was doing his business, then (finally) a random chinese guy interferred and they got into a fight. At that point, more Chinese guys came into the fight until the foreigner lost consciousness. Interesting detail: the police were there BUT didn't do anything!

The government is trying to track down the foreigners who don't have legal papers to stay here. Which means, any time, anywhere, any place, any day, any opportunity, they could stop you on the streets and ask for your papers. Not only for foreigners, also for Chinese people. I haven't been checked on, but a couple days ago I was walking toward our meetingspot and in front of me, 3 Chinese people were asked to identify themself. So, for all the ones who wants to visit Beijing, be prepared. :) For the ones who wants to see the video: I think you can watch it at Youtube, otherwise Youku (Chinese version) and type in "Laowai dang jie qiangjian zhongguo nuhai"

Alright, let's bring the mood back up for a bit huh :) So, the last month was pretty busy. The day that my cousin and friend left, our other friend arrived here in Beijing. He's living in Shanghai right now and came down to visit us. He stayed here for like 3 weeks, and the day that he left, our sweetest German Girl came back to visit us. As you tell, we've been hanging out a lot, mostly every night we were not home, but somewhere just hanging out together. Doesn't mean partying and getting drunk, but just spending some time together. My favorite Belgian Flemish speaker left last week. WARD DONGZHIMEN. The group is getting smaller and smaller. I have the impression that there aren't that much students, BUT I just prefer hanging out with the old crew. Actually, there is not really a point for me meeting new students. I'll be gone within 1 month and when I come back in October, they won't be here anymore. So, let's stick to the old crew.

Also the weather is ... too hot for classes, lol. Average is 28-30°C,which is pretty hot. I prefer going to a park our being outside instead of trapped in a classroom without AC. AC will be turned on in July. Just great, the time that I won't be here. I'm really excited for going home. It's only 4 more weeks left, they will fly by so fast. But I'm also a little bit sad that I'll have to leave my friends here behind. Some of them will still be here when I get back, but the most of them won't be here. It's weird, studying or working abroad can change your mindset, thinking, actions,.. so abruptly. Exactly 1 year ago, I was like 99% sure I would find a nice job in Belgium, have a nice apt and blabla. And now I'm still studying in China, curious about the rest of the world and hoping to meet people from everywhere. For the ones who never had this experience and are thinking about, just do it! I'll be in Belgium from 21st of June till somewhere end of August, and maybe a couple of weeks in October. I'm planning to go back to Beijing (no, I'm pretty sure I will) in mid of October. Just studying some more Chinese for another 8 months and hopefully by then, I'll be fluent. Let's hope so.

I've heard my parents are trying to buy a new business, they sold theirs almost 3 months ago and they just want to be busy, I guess. Basically, we call it 'frituur', you can eat the Belgian french fries. We are very famous for that. So I'll be busy in the summer, working for my aunt in our old restaurant and working for my parents in the frituur. BUT, before all that, I'm trying to meet up with some Hutong students in Paris. We've talked about a couple of months ago and I REALLY hope to meet them again this summer. It would be AWESOME. For the rest, just remember, this girl will be back home within 4 weeks and .. Smile everyday!

I'll keep you posted.
Kisses from Beijing!
